A creative response to Verborgen by Sarah Thomas

It visited from a cold part of the Earth. We had heard how freezing it was down there, and what that kind of ice does to colour. Sets it to memory. It gave us green gauze, rose and tangerine. We thought of tea gowns and gardens, but we turned these frozen memories to shards. We wanted to keep the sentiment hard.

Julia Obermaier’s first foray into jewellery began with a three-year apprenticeship for a goldsmith at ‘Staatliche Berufsfachschule für Glas und Schmuck; in Kaufbeuren-Neugablonz in Germany from 2009 to 2012. She then completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Gemstone and Jewellery in Germany and deepened her knowledge of precious stones with a Master of Advanced Design in Munich. In 2016, she opened her own atelier in Kempten, Germany.
